Touring Group at the Capital City Grange Contra Dance

  • Capital City Grange 6612 Vermont 12 Berlin, Vermont, 05602 United States (map)

The Young Tradition Touring Group is an ensemble of talented teenage musicians from Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine, led this year by Benjamin Foss and Oliver Scanlon. This year’s Touring Group performances feature an engaging collection of traditional and contemporary music, from a beloved Pete Sutherland song and a tune from Vermont-based Jeremiah McLane, to tunes and songs rooted in New England, Québécois, Appalachian, Celtic, and Scandinavian traditions.

Join them for a performance at the Capital City Grange Contra Dance on Saturday, March 6th, at 7:00pm. $20 suggested donation with all proceeds going to support the Touring Group.

A program of Vermont Folklife, the Touring Group nurtures youth involvement in traditional music, providing opportunities to learn from and be inspired by tradition bearers, to build strong connections with their peers, and to perform engaging repertoire for communities in Vermont and beyond. This year's Touring Group will be traveling to Appalachia in April 2027 - the preliminary schedule includes traveling to West Virginia, Virginia, and Kentucky to share music, learn from tradition-bearers, meet and collaborate with other young musicians, and experience the dynamic cultures and landscapes of the region.
