Intro to Audio Storytelling: Editing Basics (Brattleboro)

  • 118 Elliot 118 Elliot Street Brattleboro, VT USA (map)

Exactly how do you turn an audio interview into a compelling audio story? Join VT Untapped™ podcast producer Mary Wesely as she demystifies the methods of audio storytelling and the tools of audio editing to give you the skills you need to create your own audio stories.

Introduction to Audio Storytelling: Editing Basics provides a hands-on introduction to basic audio editing for anyone looking to create interview-based audio content—from simple cuts and excerpts to the core skills needed to build a longer-format podcast. Participants will learn to trim, cut, assemble and mix a simple audio piece using free, web-based editing software (Soundtrap). Interview samples and hands-on support will be provided.

We’ll also spend time discussing the particularities of the medium and what goes into creating a good audio story. Participants will have time to consult about their own projects (potential or in progress) and we’ll listen to some inspiring examples.

Led by VT Folklife Associate Director and Archivist, Andy Kolovos and VT Untapped™ Podcast Producer Mary Wesley, this workshop will provide attendees with guidance and resources to move forward with their own audio storytelling projects. Workshop attendees will also have ongoing access to Folklife Center staff for consultation as their projects progress.

Introduction to Audio Storytelling: Editing Basics is offered in partnership with The Brattleboro Words Project. Tuition is $95 ($55/students). You may also register by calling the Vermont Folklife Center at (802) 388-4964.  The Brattleboro Words Project will underwrite the participation of some teachers and research leaders, write to BrattleboroWords@gmail.com to apply.

This workshop is a part of the Vermont Folklife Center’s Fall Workshop Series.
