Trad Camp 2023 - Days 3 & 4

Dancing, drumming, and singing oh my!

We had such a full day on Wednesday with Camp and the evening showcase that we didn’t get an update out yesterday, so today’s is a double!

The past few days have been a whirlwind and we’ve really been enjoying seeing campers settle into routines at camp, exploring new friendships, and building confidence to try new things and participate in our many camp activities.

On Wednesday Migmar and Oliver returned as guest artists, and Jeh Kulu Dance & Drum Theater joined us to really make some joyful noise and get us ALL up and dancing. We also spent time preparing for the evening showcase at the Fletcher Free Library. There was a great turn out for the event and it was exciting for us camp directors to get to see what all of the classes have learning together with their instructors. Maeve, Brian, Rob, and Laurel also shared some of their own music and dancing with us as well.

Today was a rainy day but it didn’t stop our fun. Why not sing in the rain!? Ted Wesley (that’s Mary’s dad!) came to camp to share some “nonesesne songs” with the Tunes & Songs class and Julia Friend led the whole camp in some fun sea shantys, and even a song about Pancakes. Julia also performed for the lunchtime concert with Yann Falquet and they both stayed to teach classes in the afternoon.

Throughout the week we’ve continued to explore some big ideas about what “tradition” means. Wednesday’s word of the day was “Past,” and today’s was “Present!” We talked about how traditions can help us link the two.

We CAN’T believe tomorrow is the last day of camp. We thank you so much for all you’ve done this week, from providing transportation, to packing lunches, to carrying instruments, and being cheerleaders for your kiddos.
